a spring surprise

So this is my first spring in the new house, and I was really surprised to see the tree by my garage flowering so beautifully!  When I moved in last May, it didn't have any flowers, and just looked like a regular ole' tree.  I have actually come to be somewhat annoyed by the tree over the months.  I have been known to mutter under my breath at the previous owners "why did you plant this big tree so close to the edge of the garage / sidewalk / house?" and have had to do multiple serious branch trimmings to keep those areas clear.  The result is a rather lopsided tree, and my symmetry-lovin' heart just gets a little twitchy every time I glance at the disproportionate view...

But then, amidst my face and head severely rejecting the notion of an impending spring, this tree suddenly, seemingly overnight, bloomed beautiful sorta-pink-sorta-white flowers in abundance. And even though I want to hate it for it's awkward lopsided, annoyingly intrusive, random placement and likely massive amounts of allergens dangerous by proximity, I just can't help but smile every time I see it.  It's a gorgeous reminder that warmer weather and outdoor fun is on the horizon, and now I actually enjoy driving past it  every time I come in or out of the garage.  And it's nearly the first thing I see when I open my door to leave the house every day.  It's not often in my life that something I've come to label with imperfection surprises me and flips my concept upside down.... it's rather perfect, after all.

my view when I open my door :)
