Destiny -- “You’re my favorite destiny!” --- this is what Jackson thinks that his Woody doll says, and he will argue it down with you if you suggest it instead says “You’re my favorite deputy!” :)
Scandalous -- For a while, Jackson’s pronunciation of “hula” hoop sounded quite inappropriate …. his l was more an r, and it sounded juuuuussssttttt like the wh word. It’s embarrassing to have your 3 year old yelling that across the yard, is all I’m sayin’. :) Especially since he usually would say it like this: “Mommy, where’s my ______?” (with no hoop at the end).
Bugged out – Jackson has developed some fears of a few things lately – monsters, ghosts, and also bugs and bees. He gets quite a terrified look on his face if he notices a critter, and the sight of bees sometimes make him want to completely retreat inside! He’s still somewhat curious, but in a timid from-afar sort of perspective. I’m actually kind of happy I don’t have a snakes & snails & puppy dog tails kind of little boy on my hands :) selfishly :)
Bedtime shenanigans – Usually Jackson seems to fall asleep easily and within a short timeframe of lights-out (by 8:30, after 30 minutes of “reading” alone in bed), but occasionally he pulls an insomnia act and I can hear him talking to himself for an hour or two. The other night (towards the beginning of our full-on potty training), he kept having to get up to pee, which I encouraged of course… but I’m not sure if he really had to, or if he was summoning the urge because it afforded him a new night-time escape from the confinements of bedtime. He would get up to go, and I would discover his lamp on, and some things strewn about (I have a strict rule for nap and bedtime about not being out of bed, and not playing with multiple toys during rest times– he gets one toy or book in bed, and that’s it). So he has definitely having a little bedtime party in his room. An hour after his bedtime, he had to pee yet again, and when I go in, his lamp is on, he’s wearing PJs and shoes; when I asked him why he had shoes on he answered matter-of-factly “because I want to wear shoes to school” … of course. I assured him we would put them on in the morning, but he insisted on wearing them to bed. Since I try (key word there) to avoid power struggles, I said, ehhhh, whatever. When I went to bed after 10:00, I still heard him in there talking nonstop to himself…. who knows what time he actually went to sleep!
Rhyming – He’s totally obsessed with rhyming the last 2-3 weeks. Not sure where it all started, but he always notices when words rhyme, which is especially prominent in his favorite Dr. Seuss books. He’s pretty good at picking up on rhymes, and sometimes he even comes up with his own out of the blue… today he was just playing at his train table, and randomly asked “Mommy, do ‘one’ and ‘fun’ rhyme?” So we play a lot of rhyming games :) Hmmm…. perhaps a future freestyler? haha
