fishy fun

We now have 2 new pet members of our family – George & Jackson, the guppy fish!  I stumbled upon the idea at a recent yard sale, where there was a small aquarium and all the accessories, ready to go, for sale for only $3.  I decided some fish might be a fun potty training success reward when Jackson was fully trained, without accidents.

So this past weekend, I decided to let him pick out his fish and set up the aquarium – he got a new bed and fish all in one weekend!  I was a bit overwhelmed with the 8,000 aisles of advanced biological and ecological offerings for water creatures at PetSmart, but we finally settled on 2 yellow guppies, a new bulb, and replacement filters.  We had fun setting up the tank, but I think I did about seventeen things incorrectly, so hopefully these guppies are surviving, strong fish!  They have been swimming around happily the last couple of days, so fingers crossed!

Setting up the tank  (and doesn’t that diet sundrop back there make you want to drop it like it’s hoottttttt??? haha!)

Best shot I could get of these swimmy guys!  I asked Jackson, “what do you want to name your fish?”  He pondered for a moment, then said “George!”  I asked about the second one, and he said “hmmmm……. Jackson!”  And another fun note… the font I used in picnik is titled “Action Jackson” – !!!  I just discovered all the additional fonts that I never noticed before, and am thrilled there’s one with my little guy’s name.  I see lots of fun photo captions in my future.

So happy with his new pets!  Of course…we have already had an “incident.”  Tonight, when I came to let him out of a time-out, he said “I made a big mess, Mommy” before I even entered the room…. uh-oh.  He had managed to pull down the fish scoop net from  a shelf, informed me that he had attempted to take out his fish, but luckily all he managed to get were a handful of the rocks…which ended up all over the floor.  He also said he fed them again because “they were still hungry” after their first feeding this evening.  I have now moved the supplies a bit more out of reach :)
