gymnastics fun

Jackson has been taking a weekly gymnastics class at a local place for several months now.  His Grammy usually takes him each Tuesday, but I took the day off work to hang out with him this past week, and finally had a chance to see what it was all about.    There was only one other boy in class, but likely due to summer schedules – they are actually changing the course timing, so I’ll be able to take him after work during the summer.  It will be fun to enjoy this experience with Jackson!  It’s a new dynamic to sit on the sidelines and observe him participating with others, following direction of a teacher, etc.   The pattern is pretty much what I’d expect though – he’s generally well-behaved, but sometimes struggles with being patient and waiting… he always wants to be on the go and doing the next activity.

Here are some pics / vids I snapped!  Unfortunately, due to recent technical issues with my memory cards, I had to resort to using the iPhone’s camera, so the quality is a bit sub-par at times. :(

ready…..

jumping down the trampoline – they had to do a few different styles of jumping patterns.  I was impressed!

stretching – neat concept using hula hoops to make sure they stretch out far enough!

Lifting his legs and touching feet on the bar – the boy is strong!

… swimming through the foam.  he totally cheats at the end.  I sort of don’t blame him. :)

walking the beam at the end of class

This seems to be a much better investment than swimming class, where Jackson spent 90% of the class either in tantrums or time out, all because he didn’t want to participate, and just wanted to find the pool toys.  A trampoline, hanging bars, and foam jumping, and he’s all good!
