I’ve been intrigued with the idea of camping this fall … and while I haven’t been able to pull off an adult trip, I decided to try it out with Jackson in a much less committed fashion :) At first I thought we’d camp in the backyard, but since we are both total newbies, and the weather has been dipping quite low overnight, I was convinced to switch it up and just camp in the living room. I quickly became excited by the additional opportunities and comforts this afforded – watching movies, temperature control, and I could actually roam about the house and sleep in my own bed. Score for both of us!
So I threw up the tent (ok, more like barely fit it in my living room, struggled with the poles, left it sitting totally wonky lopsided for a bit in frustration, and finally came back later to realize how to get it set up properly … not totttalllyyy smooth, but it ended up right in the end!), and we were ready to go! That evening we watched a movie from inside the tent, indulged in popcorn and (microwave) s’mores, and just enjoyed our camping adventure. When it was finally time for bedtime, I turned on the “campsite” sounds on Jackson’s iPod and his stars/moon “night light”, and he fell asleep (well, more like fought sleep and finally succumbed hours later…) to the sounds of a crackling fire and crickets. Very faux-camping, indeed! :)

I’m in a tent!
making s’mores
yummmmmmmm
popcorn & movie! and you can’t go camping without you trucks!
time for sleep….
We will definitely have to do this again!! And maybe someday soon I’ll get the energy and courage up to do a for-reals camping trip with the little guy :)
