It’s getting difficult to keep up with all of the new words / phrases Jackson is using these days. He even wowed the doctor and some others at his 2 year check up --- another mom said she was surprised that he was only two given his expansive vocabulary! <<commence swelling pride and coinciding effort to hold it back, because HELLO, he’s not mastering his SATs or anything. Yet.>>
Here are some of my favorites of late – the questions are a rather recent development!
“Football is?” (where is the football?)
“Train go?” (where did the train go?)
“Mommy, are youuuu?” (Mommy, where are you?)
==== and other related “where” questions =======
“Jackson’s bicycle” (referring to his tricycle) … and now that the “mine” possessiveness has kicked in, he refers to just about everything as “Jackson’s”. Jackson’s train. Jackson’s truck. Jackson’s cup. Jackson’s pants. ……
“STOMP. STOMP. STOMP.” Pretending he’s some kind of dinosaur or big animal, he’ll take huge stomping steps and say “stomp” each time. This is a fun game we play at home :) Not sure where it originated from, but there is one book we read occasionally that has a dinosaur “stomp”ing.
“Big giant steps” Somewhat related to stomp, he will take a huge step, and say “big giant steps”…. we do this one for fun too, and usually ends in lots of laughs.
“I did it!” He’ll say this when he’s proud of an accomplishment.
“I dooooo it!” Very different meaning than the previous. This one is used when he’s frustrated that I’m doing something for him and he wants to do it on his own. Getting a lot of this one lately :)
“This one” It makes me laugh because he never says “that one” (even when I say it for him to repeat) so it’s always “this one, Mommy, this one!” and I never know what he’s referring to….usually there’s a multitude of choices and no real way to know what “this” is!
“Nooo waaay” This started out of the blue; instead of just saying no, he says “nooo waaay.” It’s too funny to be annoying :)
“Umm” / “Uhhh” This is the one that really makes it seem like he’s engaging in real conversation because he’s just started interjecting the umm/uhh into his pauses in speech, while he’s thinking. Hopefully I don’t do it too much :)
“Mis Me” (excuse me)
“Be nice!” he said this the other day while doing something not-so-nice. Guess the message missed the mark there! :)
“Ewww, nasty / gross” we always end up laughing about this one…. it’s because I always tell him not to drink the bath water and have probably used the words nasty/gross/yucky. He’ll say “eewwwww nasty water” when he’s trying to make me laugh (anywhere….often in the car…always very much out of context). It always works. :)
