jacksonisms

Truck bike
Jackson likes to make up (or enhance?) things and concepts by adding “truck” as a prefix.  Once I asked him what fish he was most excited to see at the aquarium… a “truck-fish” of course!  This is a conversation we had the other day in the car:
J – Mommy, I want a truck-bike.
Me – I don’t even know what that is…
J – It’s at Wal-Mart…. They brought it out, and then it was there.  They brought it there.     [pause]         That’s what a truck-bike is.

Awwww
Jackson is at a sweet stage, where he surprises me with unsolicited hugs and other emotional sentiments…. the kind of stuff that makes you want to scoop up your little one and squeeze ‘em silly.  The other day, randomly getting out of the car, he said out of nowhere “I love you, mommy.”

bestest
Another awwww moment, but this one with a smidgen of funny.  At dinner one evening, Jackson said in all seriousness “Mommy, you  make the BESTEST lunch.”   Yes, I did indeed prepare a culinary masterpiece, complete with frozen chicken nuggets, box mac-n-cheese, and canned black eye peas. :)

Truck friends
At a stoplight, a large truck was parked next to us; I heard Jackson whispering, so I listened in a bit more, and realized he was talking to the truck.  “Hi, Mack…. Mack?  Hi, Mack….”  (Mack is the big truck on the movie Cars …. Jackson adores him.)  Super cute!

Handy Helper
Jackson came in to find me the other day and said “I drew crayon on the wall…”  (and seemed this time, to realize it wasn’t allowed).  I asked him why he had done it – his response:  “But I was trying to be like Handy Manny!”  (wearing his worker hat and all – Handy is a cartoon character that often draws his handyman plans with what looks like an orange crayon).  I couldn’t be too mad with that logic!  We did have another discussion about appropriate places to draw, so hopefully the construction project specs will end up on the easel next time :)

Spanglish
With all the Dora and Diego that Jackson has watched, he definitely has some Spanish vocabulary mixed in with his language.  So occasionally he throws out some mixture of the languages.  The newest version is at bath time – he now likes to say goodbye when we pull the drain…but every single time he says “Goodbye, agua!”

sweet dreams
File this under a big fat awwwwwww, too.  The other night when I was putting Jackson to bed, as I was leaving the room to close the door, he said “Sweet dreams, mommy.” awwwwwww x 18teen.

snacktime
One of the albums we like to listen to in the car is the Barenaked Ladies Snacktime.  There’s a hilarious song (as they all are) about snack favorites.  Jackson perked up the other day and said  “I like EVERYTHING!!!” to which I asked, “well, what’s your favorite?”  His response – “Hmmmmmm….. ice cream!…..and breakfast!…..AND lunch!!”  Hilarious.

rock star
J:  “I wish I had a rock show – it would be awesome!”
Me:  “What songs would you play?”
J:  “I would play songs like Cars.”
Me:  “Who will go see your show?”
J:  “ Tasha…and the teachers…and [a classmate].  And the babies [at daycare] would watch too.  I will play the drums… AND the guitar.  And the loud things too.”
