Time translated
Jackson: When we are going?
Me: In a couple of hours.
Jackson: Well, did you know “in a couple of hours” means “right now” in Spanish?
The Joker
He uses the “I’m just joking” phrase at times to attempt to backtrack out of trouble or other situations. One night when I asked him if he was really done with dinner after only eating a couple of bites, and reminded him that he wouldn’t get to eat anything later, he responded, “Oh, I’m just joking, Mommy! I’m not done yet.”
Must have dug a hole.
Jackson: “I went to China one day.”
Me: “I’m pretty sure you haven’t been to China; it’s a country that is really far away, and I would have known if you had gone there.”
Jackson: “Yes, I really did go to China.”
Me: “Who took you?”
Jackson: “Aunt Steph & Uncle Alan”
Me: “No, that’s not possible; they would have told me about a trip to China.”
Jackson: “No, they didn’t tell you because it’s a SURPRISE.”
Rockin’ Out
Jackson now loves music with “lots of drums and guitars” and if I try to turn anything of the pop or hip-hop variety on, he starts protesting immediately. I’ve tried to find some good rockin’ songs that are ok for my little guy to listen along – two of his favorites are Beastie Boys – Sabotage and Blur’s Song 2. We definitely have some fun rockin’ car rides these days! It’s hilarious to see his little head bobbing in the mirror!
Sunny Days
One of our favorite bedtime songs is You are my Sunshine. One night, we were both singing, but Jackson asked me to stop, and he finished the song with his own version: “Please don’t take my mom-my away….” {{heart melts.}}
More sweetness
Another evening at bedtime, I was leaving and said “goodnight sweet Jackson” – he responded promptly with “goodnight sweet Mommy” {{awwwwwwawwwww}}
Construction Partners
“When I grow up, I’m going to be a constructioner, and when you grow up, you will drive the truck with me.”
Ninjago battles take TIME, Mommy.
Jackson is really into Ninjago lately… not sure where this comes from, other than Lego commercials he’s seen…? But now he watches videos on YouTube, loads up his wish list with Ninjago goodies, and talks about the green/black/white/lorddarnadonsomethingorother allllllll the time. He ended up getting a couple of the ninja Lego figures/sets, and it’s been non-stop simulated battles ever since. Here’s an exchange we had the other evening:
Me: “It’s time for bed; please put up your toys and let’s head to your bedroom to get ready.”
Jackson: “Can I finish up my Lego Ninjago fight?”
Me: “Probably; how long do you think it will last?”
Jackson: “Ummmmm, 3 more hours.”
{{yeah, it lasted less than 2 minutes.}}
Not my preferred future career for him.
Jackson, his Grammy and I were hanging out in his bedroom recently, and he was playing with some of his role play outfits. Next thing we know, look over, and he’s donning a fireman hat, boots, underwear, and that’s IT. And he proudly proclaimed “LOOK! I’m a naked fireman!”
