Strewn randomly about my desk are scraps of paper with miscellaneous “Jacksonisms” jotted down so that I can preserve the memory of the adorable / funny / witty / quirky things that he says …. however, many of them fly from my memory so quickly, the thoughts are already flitted from my mind by the time I sit at my desk for the day. Here are a few of those that I managed to scribble down of late.
{ when I was sick with the flu }
J: How do you feel, Mommy?
Me: I’m not 100%, but feeling better.
J: Well, how much percent are you?
Me: (chuckle) Well, I guess I’d say approximately 70%.

{ pirates are awesome }
J: Are pirates real?
Me: Well, I think they were around a long time ago, but the pirates like the ones you see in stories and shows are just pretend, I’m pretty sure.
J: Well, I believe in pirates, cause they’re AWESOME.

{ IF, THEN statements }
Jackson has started communicating in his own “code” quite often – when I ask him a question, he will often now describe the code, and then answer using his established symbol. Example:
Me: Jackson, have you brushed your teeth yet?
J: If I do THIS (crosses “X” sign in front of body with hand) it means “yes”; if I do THIS (makes a circle in front of body with hand) it means “no”. (( then elaborately crosses an X in front of himself ))

{ mighty morphin mommy ranger }
I have no idea the context for this one, but this is what’s scribbled on my paper:
“Mommy-zord, Jackson-zord, tickle battles”
We must have had some type of Power Rangers fun one evening wit our respective “zords” :)
********
{ trickery }
J: I tricked you, Mommy
Me: Why did you do that?
J: Because it’s just so easy for me to trick you!

{ the backstory }
…. J shows me his artwork from preschool of a chicken
Me: Was there a backstory to this picture?
…. Jackson peers behind the page, to the backside of the artwork – the mommy and grammy get a good chuckle
***************
{ birthday win }
…. after his fifth birthday Ninjago party
J: “That was the BEST birthday I’ve ever had!”
*****************
{ inch by inch }
…. asking about having his height measured
J: “Grammy – you forgot to inch me!”
**************
{ vegetation presentation }
…. while on a hay ride, I used the word “vegetation” in describing someone’s yard, and Jackson is often curious about new words he hears, and asked the meaning, so I described it for him; as we passed another yard, he said:
J: “Look at that yard’s presentation!”
